About the Artist

Pradnya Deshpande is a teacher, writer, painter, seamstress, chef and tv critic. When she's not educating high school students on Biology, she spends her time dabbling in Art.

She learnt Warli by reading books about the art form and visiting the Tribal Museum in Pune for inspiration. She started out by painting traditional watercolours, but soon moved on to modern interpretations on wall-clocks, calendars. She is currently experimenting with Warli on fabric (sarees, kurtis, home linen). She has also learnt Madhubani and Batik.
She hasn't forgotten her craftier (!) side and is an accomplished seamstress and needlework-er par excellence.
